Supplies!!

I love getting glass deliveries and usually by the time it arrives at the house I've forgotten the pain to my credit card :)

It's always so exciting to see what patterns I can find in the new sheets for earrings etc. I also got lots of my favourite wispy white glass for wings, stars and garlands.

I did forget to buy more solder though - doh!!! :(

Just Dandy

Last week saw a flurry of little bird activity in my shop - Little Bird created quite a stir - lucky Ira Grant is now the proud owner of him - I'm sure he'll be very happy.

So I created some more little friends for him and like most of my work, I try to make each one a little individual - using different glass, ribbon or beads for each.

And, very recently indeed, little dandy bird fell in love ....it's still early days but I think he'll be telling the world very soon :)

You can find some of my signed little birds hanging out here

The Storque - This Handmade Life

Awhile back I posted about Vadjutka's great Then and Now blog project. The contributions from crafters and artists have been growing steadily and Etsy asked Vadjutka to follow up on the idea with some interviews with those who had contributed their work.

So first up was me! You can read about me talking about my glasswork from the very beginning to the present day and where I'm hoping to take it :)

A little peek at a new garland in progress

I've been wanting to make a little series of "autrefois" garlands for awhile. Pieces with a little bit of the past, memories and stories.

Inspired by the idea of a locked room in a derelict chateau, and the dusty, broken, torn but still beautiful objects abandoned within.

This is the beginning of the process..........

Petals - A Garland

I bought the trim for this garland last year when my sister, Linda, arrived over from Canada for a short visit. The primary reason for her visit I suspect was shoe shopping but it was great to see her anyway :) Linda makes one of a kind Irish Dance dresses for the North American competitions - I'll do a feature on them soon! Anyway, we share a love of fabric stores - Linda for the fabric and me for the ribbons and trim. We hit the fabric shops in Paris (in between a whirlwind tour of the touristy spots) and then a few days later continued to shop locally in Grenoble.

Anyway... this trim was Linda's choice - and I love it! It looks great with the light green satin ribbon twisted through it.

I only had a few cms of it left so used a few of the ribbon flowers for this little dandy bird. You can find him in my Etsy store here

Last Week

There wasn't very much creating going on in my atelier last week. I took a few days off to go to Lyon and see REM, Leonard Cohen and the very very fabulous sohappyIalmostsobbed gig of Damon Albarn presents Honest Jon's Revue . I also took the opportunity to shop of course, and bought some gorgeous ribbon and antique glass which I'll hopefully make into bunting later in the week.

Before I left, I wrote another "Etsy Finds" email which was mailed out on Tuesday. You can read the Storque related piece here I've been really inspired to try a postcard format for some of my glass - maybe instead of the ACEO format. Something else to add to my 'to do' list!

My garlands got a lovely little feature in Royal Buffet's beautiful blog. You can read the article here and check out their online store for delicate papergoods including garlands and mobiles.

and finally a photo of a peony rose from the garden just because it's pretty :)

Storms at Dusk

I never get tired looking at the changing landscape here. Each time I pass a window I have to take a look because the clouds or light is constantly changing. These last few days we have had a few very beautiful storms gather - we can usually stand on the veranda and watch them come in from the Chartreuse mountains, before having to retreat to the kitchen to watch the spectacle. The lightning is good but it's the gathering clouds before the storms this week that were especially beautiful. Aaron took these gorgeous photographs.
